Werribee Park, Victoria Australia

Werribee Park includes Werribee Park Mansion, the Victoria State Rose Garden, the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre, the Werribee Open Range Zoo, a contemporary sculpture walk and a natural riverine are located 30 minutes west of Melbourne.

 

Victoria State Rose Garden

Winner of the prestigious World Federation of Rose Societies Award for Garden Excellence, this internationally acclaimed garden is located on the doorstep of Werribee Mansion.

Over 5,000 roses are displayed in four unique shaped designs, the  design set in the shape of a Tudor Rose. Two themed displays complete the rose design, a Federation Leaf growing Australian roses and David Austin Bud growing roses of 46 cultivars in bloom from October to May, the roses are at their best display from November to April.

Werribee Mansion

Werribee Mansion located 30 minutes west of Melbourne at Werribee Park, ‘the mansion’ is a living, breathing postcard of the 19th century and a must see attraction for visitors.

Werribee Mansion was completed by wealthy pastoralists, the Chirnside family in 1877. Built in the Italianate architecture style, Werribee Mansion has more than 60 rooms in several wings. Following extensive restoration, many of the Chirnside family’s items, including clothing, furniture remain on display.

Great Spot for family picnic and day out with kids. Well maintained garden lawns and garden belts. The ten hectares of manicured landscape contain a variety of exotic species combined with Australian natives.

The Sculpture Walk passes through the farm and riverine areas. This features a collection of works by Australia’s leading sculptors and selected winners of the national Helen Lempriere Award.

Werribee Zoo

Werribee Zoo is an African themed zoo. It is situated on approximately 225 hectares (560 acres) and is located on the Werribee River right next to Werribee Mansion.

Main animals on display are Hippopotamus, lion, zebra, giraffe, meerkat, ostrich, gorilla, African wild dogs, numerous antelope, rhinoceros, and Australian animals.

The park bus tour is a definite must do when you go there. You get to see much more of the animals in the park if you do this.

There are plenty of Kids activities and nature resrve walks. Please follow the Zoo guide for animal feeding times.  Don’t forget to pack up a picnic rug with picnic basket, as there are plenty of picnic grounds to enjoy a wonderful day with the family. For more detail shots please check out our Photography page 🙂
