Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show 2019:

This show is held once a year during March for 4 days at Carlton Gardens, Victoria Street, Melbourne. We visit each year, there is a wonderful display of flowers, garden structures and various other displays of University students. This show displays lot of famous Australian Horticulturists and Landscaping Teams handy work. Plenty of entertainment for children. Lots of food stands available however a picnic lunch would be great as there is plenty of grassed areas for sitting and relaxing so that you can take in the peace and serenity of the surrounds.

The Gardens are very close to Melbourne CBD and shopping district. Also very close to public transport if you don’t want to drive.Β

Exhibition building is grand building and the gardens are awesome for these wonderful displays. The magnificent main hall of the building was dedicated to floral arrangements of incredible creations and compliment to the artist’s imagination. The architecture adds to the whole ambiance. The indoor floral displays were very impressive and of a high standard. The annual hanging baskets competition is one of my favourite elements of the Show. There are scores of entries, and the best are not only pretty but clever and aesthetically pleasing.

The Carlton Gardens were transformed into various sections of stalls for the gardening enthusiasts and gardening competitions. We purchased some bulbs which we thought was great value, as well as getting several free samples of different types of fertilisers. Lots of free gifts, and great to see some of the celebrities from Better Homes & Gardens.

What an amazing experience. The flower displays are amazing, and a stroll through the various show gardens was a wonderful experience for whole family and gave us much food for thought. Staff all around the venue were very happy and helpful to show you their products. Great day out and would definitely attend again.

2019 Moomba Festival Melbourne

2019 is Moomba’s 65th year, Australia’s largest free community festival with millions of people attending every year.

Held over four days, every Labour Day long weekend, Moomba brings Melburnians together to share in the vibrancy and spirit of our much loved city.

All fun and free courtesy the City of Melbourne.Β

As I mentioned Moomba Festival is the longest running festival in Australia. Great non stop action for kids is guaranteed with a parade through the streets of Melbourne and a large number of activities along the famous Yarra River catering for all diversities of people.Β

Since 1955, the Moomba Parade has captured the hearts and imaginations of Melburnians, bringing to life the vitality and energy of the beloved festival. The parade featured dance troupes and community groups as well as the larger-than-life floats, which were designed by children. The parade is officially opened with a Welcome to Country address by the Wurundjeri Tribe.

The famous Water Skiing event attracts competitors from all over the world .Once you have finished watching the parade on the Monday a quick stroll through Birrarung Marr gets you to all the action. A great day or week out for a tourist or locals. The most famous being the Birdman Rally as competitors jump from a large ramp high above the river and see how far they can fly, lots of fun and laughter.Β

What to take?

  • Sunscreen.
  • Water bottle.Β
  • Comfy shoes as none of our friend went in high heals and was not fun at all for her.Β
  • Rug to sit on during the Parade or while waiting for rides.Β
  • Take cash because not all food stalls with accept cards.Β
  • Phone and camera.Β
  • Go by public transport as looking for parking can be challenging.Β
